Some simple steps to avoid GMOs are:

1. Become familiar with the most common applications of genetic modification – This is important to read up because some common produces / foods have been genetically modified. Here is a general guide on identifying GMO foods.

2. Buy food labeled 100% organic – Each country has different laws on what is considered “organic”, read up on Canada’s rules for organic foods.

3. Recognize fruit and vegetable label numbers – We posted the image to the right on our Facebook a while ago, it’s incredibly useful when grocery shopping, remember 5 digit sticker code starting with 9 indicates the produce is organic.

4. Purchase beef that is 100% grass-fed

5. Seek products that are specifically labeled as non-GM or GMO-free

6. Shop locally – Not only are you supporting local farmers, eating fresh and non-GMO food, you are also eating season foods that is incredibly nutritious. Check out our Facebook page and Twitter to read up on our most recent posts on shopping at local farmer’s markets.
